Family Medicine Associates was founded in 1971 by  New Jersey School of Medicine Graduates Doctors Joseph Bagamary, MD and George Reynolds MD. The practice was originally located on Court Street in Westfield.  After receiving their respective Board Certifications in Family Practice, Dr. Bagamary and Dr. Reynolds began seeing patients in the original  Court St., Westfield office. The practice was joined a year later by fellow New Jersey School of Medicine graduate Dr. Paul Bothner, MD - also  Board Certified in Family Practice. In 1975 Dr. Geoffrey McCarthy, MD,  who was also board certified in Family Practice, joined Family Medicine Associates. He stayed with the practice until 1981 when he left to pursue a career as a pilot in the United States Air Force.

The small practice that was started in a Court St. basement moved to its current location on Springfield Road in 1979 when  the providers of Family Medicine Associates built what is now Pioneer Valley Medical Center in Westfield, Massachusetts. Family Medicine Associates occupies the entire 1st floor of the building.
